Magazine on Cartridge (MOC) Administration - Frequently Asked Questions (Please note: this is a link to the NLS practice BARD site. Updates to NLS sites are made by NLS staff and “last updated” dates are provided at the bottom of each section.)
TBT4 is produced approximately every two months
If TBT4 is the only magazine subscription a patron is subscribed to: it will be shipped on a single cartridge as it becomes available. TBT4 is treated as a monthly magazine and TBT4-only cartridges are expected to be returned within 30 days of their ship date.
If TBT4 is one of at least two or more monthly magazines subscriptions a patron is subscribed to: once it becomes available, it will be added to the next monthly magazine cartridge produced for that patron. Monthly magazine cartridges are expected to be returned within 30 days of their ship date.
If a patron is subscribed to TBT4 and at least one weekly magazine subscription, but no other monthly magazine subscriptions: the patron will receive TBT4 on its own cartridge (i.e., TBT4 will not be added to weekly magazine cartridges, if the only other magazines a patron is subscribed to are weeklies), and it is expected to be returned within 30 days of its ship date.
Ship Dates (per the NLS Magazines Release Schedule, which may be found on NLS PICS: Selected Reports and Documents: Production Reports):
NOTE: The return address on a patron's TBT4 order form, is her/his serving library's address.
NLS Operations Alert No. 12-97, dated 12/12/12: “Patrons who receive the magazine on cartridge may receive the order form either before or after the cartridge arrives in the mail.”
NLS Operations Alert No. 13-26, dated 5/2/13: “Patrons who receive the magazine first should hold it until the order form arrives. Some patrons are returning handwritten lists of their book orders to the producer with the magazine cartridge. Please ask your patrons to send book orders to their local cooperating library and send only the cartridge to the producer. Please be reminded that audio copies of TBT can be obtained from the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) if a patron has accidentally returned his or her TBT to the producer. For subscribers who have misplaced their order forms, libraries may download a text version of the TBT order form from the network library site at www.loc.gov/nlsold/networkdocs/forms/orderforms/index.html. Patrons and their libraries may also use the order forms available in the large-print edition of TBT. The forms should be returned to the patron’s library.”
