Job Description Summary: The Outreach Librarian is responsible for coordination, marketing and management of outreach to blind, visually impaired and physically disabled individuals statewide. This position also supervises the Special Services Section of the Braille and Talking Books Library including supervision of three staff and oversight of the volunteer program. Some weekend and evening hours.
Responsibilities:
Designing and implementing outreach programs, exhibits and presentations to promote the services of the library and volunteer opportunities
Contacting statewide agencies and organizations serving potential Talking Book Library patrons
Training and coordinating staff and volunteers for the development and distribution of outreach materials
Representing the library at meetings, programs, speaking engagements, fairs and other venues
Supervising Special Services staff which includes oversight of the library volunteer program including recording and production of digital audio books and magazines
Supervising the planning and coordination of an annual volunteer recognition event
Requirements:
Master of Library Science degree
Preferred candidate will have experience in outreach and public speaking
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Ability to plan and coordinate special events; to develop and produce outreach materials and displays
Negotiating skills
Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications
Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
